Characters

As it is confirmed that the last episode will take place 10 years later after the current story line meaning the current characters would have changed a lot. the show runners want these characters to be the start of what we see of them in the comics so the character designs will be more like the designs of the classic character.

Selina Kyle (Catwoman) played by Camren Bicondova.

In Gotham, Selina is shown as bruce wayne's friend instead of in the comics where they meet as adults as a frenemy. Selina retains her backgrounds as a talented theif and conflicted between her amoral tendencies and her link with Bruce. however, in Episode 2 of season 5, it looks like that indecisiveness has been changed, after being paralyzed by Jeremiah Valeska and Bruce's unwillingness to let her suffer, he went to Poison Ivy for a cure which would heal Selina's paralasis but would also unlock her darker nature too. Her motivations for this season seems to be to get revenge on Jeremiah for shooting her and showing to Bruce that she is an independent woman and doesn't need protecting.

Selina's character is much like Bruce Wayne's character as she too has not been 'awakened' as Catwoman until this season. Unlike her comic and other movie counterparts, Selina is the least sexualised and more brutal. She has curly hair and bright green eyes much like her Tim Burton version. Because her character has recently aquired her trademark wipe and claws so these are two details that can be added to her character 10 years down the line too.

Oswald Cobblepot (Penguin) played by Robin Lord Taylor.

Gotham's Oswald is very different from the Penguin we see in the movies and comics. Much like his movie counterparts, Oswald did not have the best childhood, he was bullied and had no friends however unlike his movie counterpart Oswald has a loving family life with his mother growing up and later with his father after meeting him. Because of Gertrud Kupelput, we see a more human side to the Penguin, protecting her from harm and wanting to provide for her. after his mother and later, his father is taken from him he snaps. In Gotham, his ambition to rule the city comes from the cruelty fo the city and his was of getting back at those who laughed at him and to feel powerful and in control for once. For the final season, Oswald's main goals are to survive the war zone that the city has turned into, to protect the people he cares about and find a way out of the city.

Oswald has been through a lot during the shows airing and from what we know about season 5 so far, its gonna get worse. Oswald in the show is a skinny young man with pale skin and noticeably bright blue eyes. His nose is a key feature that giving his moniker as it is slightly pointed and beak-like. He has a permanent limp from a previous injury which causes his right foot to be turned outward, giving him more of the Penguin walk. He uses the penguin's signature cane/ umbrella to move around. As the Penguin in the comics wears a monocle to see and we know that in later episodes of the show he will receive an injury to his eye so I want to add that as a character element.

Edward Nygma (The Riddler) played by Cory Michael Smith.

At the beginning of the show, Edward is a forensic scientist working for the Gotham City Police Department who has a fondness for expressing himself through riddles. Much like Oswald he was bullied in his workplace and insulated to be as a child too. In Gotham, we do not know his childhood unlike his depictions in other media but from what we see in the show, at work he isn't the most favoured coworker. he is easily infected as seen as interactions with many characters like Jim Gordon when they first meet, his obsession with Kristen Kringle and his infatuation with Oswald. After accidentally killing Kristen he embraces being a killer, working with Penguin for a short time as his Chief of Staff and killing occasionally. as he suffers from some form of personality disorder he is egotistic, flamboyant and manipulative when in his Riddler persona and reserved, focused and nerdy when it Ed in the driver's seat. because of this Edward and Riddler are usually seen at odds when it comes to what is best for themselves. in season 5 his main goal is to find out why he is blacking out and who is in control of his body and become one again.

Edward has evolved during the show running however he is one of the few characters that is the furthest development wise to the character in the comics. In the show, Edward is shown in his signature green suit but he doesn't wear his trademark question marks on it like his comic book origins. in season 5 we see them introduce more questions into his wardrobe and they are beginning to introduce elements from previous comics such as his ace cards. much like Oswald, we do have a slight understanding of what will happen to Edward in the final season.
