In order (Top to Bottom)-
Hunter City
Concept illustrations for a city after the infected epidemic. The world has been ravaged for 20 years now and without proper care, nature has started to take over rundown cities and abandoned buildings. The warm lighting coming from outside is a stark contrast to the cold shadows surrounding the building. Sweeney's use of lightings show the designs when a scene is to be serene and when it should be foreboding and he balances the two contrasts well.
Outskirts 1
The path that Ellie and Joel take during the game is mostly destroyed cities, the city is covered in plants and greenery which is a good way of dating and adding atmosphere to your illustration. By adding the towering skyscrapers in the background is a great way of adding scale.
Underground
As time has passed the world has changed and you can view it through this illustration, the roof has collapsed letting natural light in and the foliage is falling over the edges and this adds a calm warm feeling which contrasts with the dark shadows of the underground.
Tommy's
This is a house that Ellie and Joel found, Ellie only ever known giving through the infected and her seeing a glimpse of a life that others had before her. The room is aged and messy almost like when the epidemic happened the previous family had to leave in a hurry. The details to the room adds a story of what life was like before and shows what happened when the infected happened.
